“New GM” about to emerge; meanwhile, back at the Googleplex…

Government Motors (excuse me, I mean General Motors) may be out of Chapter 11 as early as tomorrow, after less than six weeks in bankruptcy reorganization. The US Bankruptcy Court this week approved the sale of the automotive manufacturer’s most desirable assets to an entity known as “New GM,” while lots of debt, unwanted assets, and tort claims for damages by consumers will be assigned to the bankrupt “Old GM.”

Psst, dude! Google has a new operating system!

An automatic stay of the bankruptcy court’s order expires tomorrow; unless some petitioners come up with convincing legal grounds for appeal or a realistic alternative to the sale or liquidation of GM, the court’s not going to roll over and keep a hold on its order. Barring the appearance of a mystery buyer at the bankruptcy court with a check for $50B or more, the sale is going forward as the court directed.

Dude! Google has a Web-based operating system! They’re going to challenge Apple and Microsoft head on! Apply directly to forehead! It is so on!

“Old GM” will be in charge of selling off those assets that “New GM” doesn’t want, such as Saab Automobile, which is being sold to a group led by Koenigsegg Automotive, and the NUMMI joint venture with Toyota Motor. It’ll get rid of the HUMMER brand and Saturn, as well.

This new operating system for PCs is based on the Google Chrome browser technology and is separate from Google’s Android software for mobile devices. Dude! It is on like Donkey Kong!

GM’s emergence from Chapter 11 — or, more properly, the emergence of “New GM” from bankruptcy — comes as the GM Europe situation remains in flux. The sale of Adam Opel and Vauxhall Motors to a group led by Magna International and Sberbank is still in process, while Beijing Automotive and Fiat are in the wings, ready to take the wheel if the Magna group falters.

Google Chrome Operating System is going to be awesome, dude!

All right — enough, man! I love using Google Chrome — it’s even better than Firefox and way better than Internet Explorer 8! I’m gonna give up writing about GM and the automotive industry, which is just so sad these days, and get back to covering the high tech industry! Woot!
