Like most people with Web sites, we’re trying to drive more traffic to Bizmology and to Hoover’s in general. Without resorting to the porn business, of course. We could get lots of traffic by sprinkling the phrase free porn on our site and in hidden keywords, but we’re a business information company and higher-minded than that. And we don’t want that kind of traffic, thank you.

If you like our posts, we hope you’ll return every business day to read fresh content written by some of the most insightful editors in the U.S. of A. Heck, in the whole world.
If you don’t know Bizmology (or our sister site, Hoover’s Business Insight Zone, written by the indefatigable Tim Walker), then here’s our bid to get some random traffic. “Don’t Tase me, bro!” (I love this dance remix of that viral video.) “Leave Britney alone!” Britney Spears just needs some love, all y’all. I like to peruse PerezHilton.com as a guilty pleasure. (Or “The Daily Dish!” column at SFGate.com, which is written by British gossip reporters who have a hazy grasp of US geography, such as placing the Hamptons north of New York City.) “Master Chief is my father.” I love that Feist video in the TV commercial for Apple’s video iPod nano models. Finally, here’s the top search terms in 10 categories, according to SearchEngineWatch.com: PayPal, Honda, Netflix, unclaimed money, Pizza Hut, alli (a diet pill), MySpace (two categories), CNN, and Hotels.com.

Learning about search engine optimization (SEO) as we have at Hoover’s made me think about a book published some three decades ago and now sadly out of print: Golfing for Cats, by Alan Coren. Coren explained in the foreword to his book that he was discussing the marketing of books with his literary agent, and the agent remarked that the most popular books at the time were about cats, golf, or Hitler. So, Coren wrote and published his book, Golfing for Cats, and put a giant swastika on the cover.

Thanks for the tip on the book. I will have to go and check that out.
